As a business owner, entrepreneur, and even professional, it’s awfully easy to get sidetracked and overwhelmed by all there is to do in your business and in your life. And how much of what you are doing is really forwarding your goals and your desires?

I was inspired years ago by Gay Hendricks’s work on this in his book, The Big Leap. In it, he talks about how all our activities can be divided into four zones: Zone of Incompetence, Zone of Competence, Zone of Excellence, and Zone of Genius. According to Hendricks, if we do (or try to do) only activities in our Zone of Genius, we will be happier, more successful, and more fulfilled.

I’ve seen this in my own business, and it’s a powerful exercise I take my clients through.
